Curfew lifted from Jambusar town
December 13, 2002 13:52 IST
Indefinite curfew, clamped in Jambusar town in Gujarat's Bharuch district following clashes on Thursday, was lifted on Friday morning and the situation is 'normal'.
Director General of Police K Chakravarthy told PTI in Ahmedabad that the curfew was lifted after a thorough review of the situation.
The trouble arose over a petty issue after some miscreants tried to break a queue at a polling booth in Tankaribhagal locality.
It led to mobs indulging in arson and heavy stone-pelting. Rioters also set two houses and a handcart on fire. Three persons were injured in the clashes.
Police had fired fifteen rounds in the air to disperse the mobs after teargas shells proved ineffective. This was followed by imposition of curfew.
