Congress pins hopes on Priyanka

Congressmen, facing a virtual 'do or die' battle in the Gujarat assembly polls, are featuring Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in their banners and posters along with her mother and party president Sonia Gandhi.

The posters and banners of Priyanka along with her mother and grandmother Indira Gandhi are on sale outside the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee office in Ahmedabad and those selling it are doing brisk business.

This is perhaps for the first time that posters featuring Priyanka are being used in the state, where the Congress is pitted against the BJP in a straight contest.

The Congress' main target is caretaker Chief Minister Narendra Modi focusing his government's 'failure' to provide security to the people and to religious places.

The party has come out with a poster showing Modi surrounded by Black Cat commandos in the backdrop of the Akshardham temple with bodies scattered outside the temple to drive home the point that 'The chief minister is safe, God is unsafe'.

Despite Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's assertion that Godhra should not be made a poll issue, the BJP had come out with a poster depicting Modi looking horrified at the burning of the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express and also of the Akshardham temple to claim - Let it be Godhra or Akshardham, we (BJP) will wipe out terrorism.

However, the BJP removed the picture of the burning train and the Akshardham temple on the directives of the Election Commission.
