Samata will not support Congress in Gujarat: Shrivastava
The Samata Party, contesting the Gujarat assembly election, declared on Monday that it would not support the Congress in case of a hung assembly. The party is an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party at the Centre.
"In no case will we support the Congress," spokesman Shambhu Shrivastava said after former party president Jaya Jaitley released the Samata election manifesto.
The Samata Party, which has fielded 25 candidates, is critical of both the BJP and the Congress for the premier state "lagging" in development in the last few years. Its manifesto accuses both parties of using communalism for political gain.
Asked whether the Samata Party contesting the polls on its own would send a wrong signal about the fate of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre, Shrivastava said, "NDA is in existence only at the Centre, in Bihar and Jharkhand."
The party asserted in its manifesto that it would work towards limiting the size of the government in the state. The strength of the ministry should not be more than 10 per cent of the strength of the legislature, it said.
