Priyanka will manage Sonia's affairs in Amethi

Priyanka Gandhi will soon take over as campaign manager to her mother and Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, in the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency of Uttar Pradesh.

Disclosing this, former Union minister and a close confidant of Sonia Gandhi, Capt Satish Sharma said Priyanka Gandhi would arrive in Amethi two days before the filing of nomination by her mother, and hold meetings with party workers in all the five assembly segments of this constituency, besides undertaking mass contact tours across the state.

Amethi goes to polls on October 3.

The electoral process in the constituency started today with the issuing of the poll notification.

The Congress has so far not announced the date on which Sonia Gandhi would file her nomination. Capt Sharma said Priyanka Gandhi would stay in the constituency after her mother's nomination to supervise the party campaign. Later her brother Rahul Gandhi would also join her, and take over from her when she accompanies Sonia Gandhi on her election tours in other parts of the country.

Capt Sharma said Sonia Gandhi would not be able to devote much time to Amethi, but she would tour the constituency at least twice or thrice. He said Priyanka Gandhi would spare at least a day each for campaigning in Sultanpur and Rae Bareili constituencies.

Capt Sharma is pitted against Arun Nehru (BJP) in Rae Bareili.
