NCP to contest 14 of the 24 north-eastern seatsThe Nationalist Congress Party will field candidates in 14 of the 24 constituencies in seven north-eastern states. NCP central observer for the north east, West Bengal and Sikkim B B Datta told journalists in Agartala that the party would field candidates in 10 of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam, and one each in Tripura, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur. The party will also contest in Mizoram and Nagaland. Dutta said the NCP would field candidates in nine of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal. Birballav Saha, who was recently appointed NCP's Tripura unit president, would be the candidate for the West Tripura seat. The NCP leader criticised the Communist Party of India-Marxist-led Left Front government in the state, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress.
