Scindia nominated deputy leader of Lok Sabha

Congress president and chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party Sonia Gandhi has nominated Madhavrao Scindia as the party's deputy leader in the Lok Sabha and Priya Ranjan Das Munshi as its chief whip.

Sonia has already retained the leader, deputy leader and the chief whip of the party in the Rajya Sabha.

The nomination of Scindia has put at rest all speculation about this post. Among others, N D Tiwari's name was also considered, but was dropped as the Congress leader in the house also is from Uttar Pradesh.

Asked whether he would retain the post of AICC general secretary, Scindia said it was up to the Congress president to decide.

Answering a question whether the leadership was unfair to MPs from southern states, party's official spokesperson Ajit Jogi said it was ''not at all unfair'' to the South. ''Please wait and see,'' he said.
