Elections 98
Ram Awadh won the seat for the Janata Party in 1980, and promptly lost to the Rajiv wave in 1984. He won the seat back in 1989 for the JD, and retained it in 1991 as well. In 1996, he entered the fray as the Congress candidate and came sixth, winning 0.91 % of the vote. The winner was Ghanshyam Chandra Kharwar of the BSP, who defeated Bechan Ram of the BJP by 24,000 votes, making it the second time Ram was runner-up. Mayawati is the BSP candidate this time. |
