The city that boasts of the dargah of Chisti, has also been represented by the BJP's Rasa Singh Rawat in the last three elections. Till 1977, when it returned the BLD, the constituency had always elected a Congressman to Parliament, and in fact reverted to that party in the 1980 and 1984 elections as well.
