In 1977, the Congressman to be defeated by the BLD was former chief minister Jagannath Pahadia, who reversed the trend in 1980. The BJP has won this seat three consecutive times starting 1989, and in 1991 Pahadia tried to stop its progress, but in vain. Gangaram Koli is the two-time sitting BJP MP from here.
