Nawal Kishore Sharma was first elected from here in 1971, before losing to the BLD's Nathu Singh in 1977. In 1980 he defeated Nathu Singh, as did Rajesh Pilot in 1984. In 1989 it was a clash between old foes when Sharma and Singh clashed, with the former winning. In 1991 and 1996 Pilot has been elected from here easily, defeating K L Meena of the BJP the last time round by 63,000 votes.
