Elections 98
The Congress has never had an easy run here, its run in Parliament constantly interrupted by the Akalis and even by the Left. The Akalis are the only group to have won the seat twice on the run. In 1992, the Congress managed to wrest the seat back from two terms of Akali representation, but in 1996, Harinder Singh Khalsa (SAD) took it back, defeating the Congress candidate by 92,000 votes. |
