Current Chief Minister S C Jamir was elected unopposed from this constituency on the Naga National Organisation ticket in the first election in 1967. The Congress could win this seat only in 1984, courtesy Konyak Chingwang who had won the previous election as an Independent. In 1991, the Congress lost this seat to an Independent, Imchalemba who retained the seat in 1996, but this time as a Congressman.
