Elections 98
Barring a couple of times, it has been the Congress all the way from the town where Kishore Kumar was born, although the Jan Sangh came close to challenging its hegemony a couple of times in the past. In 1980, the runner-up on the Janata Party ticket was Khushabhau Thakre, the BJP ideologue and the party's likely president later this year. In 1984, the runner-up was the BJP's Arif Beg. The BJP pocketed this seat in 1991 and 1996. |
