In 1971 Karia Munda lost the election as the Bharatiya Jana Sangh candidate to an independent, but came back the next time round to win the seat for the Lok Dal. He was vanquished in 1980 and 1984, but came back as the BJP candidate in 1989 and has won the seat for the saffron brigade three times in a row.
