Surya Narain Yadav won from here as a Janata Dal candidate in 1989 and 1991. After crossing over to the Congress, he promptly lost the next electionto the Janata Dal. proving that the party and not the candidate was what mattered here. Lalit Narain Mishra -- Indira Gandhi's minister who was assassinated in January 1975 in one of India's unsolved political mysteries -- won the seat in 1957.
