Right from the time Laloo Prasad Yadav swept the state, this constituency has voted his party and defeating the Congress. In fact, right through history, this constituency has voted non-Congress than the other way around. In 1989 and 1991, while the JD's main opponent was the Congress, in the 1996 election the challenger was the Samata Party, which cornering 41.42 % of the vote, has served notice on Yadav.
