Congress files plea against 'TDP rigging plan'

Andhra Pradesh Congress unit secretary K P V Ramchandra Rao has filed a writ petition in the Andhra Pradesh high court, seeking the appointment of special poll observers and deployment of special police forces in the north Telangana districts of Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Warangal to ensure free and fair elections.

The petitioner alleged that the banned Peoples War Group had given a call for the boycott of the elections in these districts and the state government had deployed police forces to prevent violence. However, the government's motive was to rig the polls in favour of the ruling Telugu Desam Party, he alleged.

Rao, a senior counsel, had moved a motion before a division bench, requesting that the petition be taken up for hearing today.
