G V G Krishnamurty to visit J&KElection Commissioner G V G Krishnamurthy will undertake a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir from August 23 to monitor the election preparations in the state. The six Lok Sabha constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir will go to the polls on September 5, 11 and 18 (two on each date). During his August 23-25 trip, Krishnamurthy will visit Kargil, Suru Valley and Pahalgam, and have detailed discussions with the district civil and police authorities on the law and order assessment, availability of poll personnel and requirement of paramilitary forces, a commission release said. Krishnamurthy will also meet the state governor, chief secretary, home secretary, chief electoral officer, director general of police and other senior officials. The overall poll planning, including preventive measures to contain law-and-order problems, will be discussed. The election commissioner will also meet representatives of political parties. UNI |
