Defending champions the West Indies take on Sri Lanka in the first semi-final of the World T20 at the Sher-e-Bangla National stadium in Dhaka on Thursday.

Over the past seven years, Sri Lanka have fallen agonisingly short at global events. They lost the finals of the 50-over World Cups in 2007 and 2011 and World Twenty20 in 2009 and 2012, while the West Indies, currently ranked eighth both in Test and One-Day Internationals, have emerged as a stronger force in cricket's latest and shortest format, winning the World Twenty20 crown in Sri Lanka two years ago.

Both teams are heavily reliant on their spinners and Sri Lanka will be looking to avenge the defeat they suffered in the 2012 final.
