India got off to a good start in the World T20 Championship, winning their first two matches comfortably.
The Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in their opening match and then went on beat the West Indies by the same margin on Sunday.
While it was a clinical all-round display in both matches, Yuvraj Singh’s lackadaisical showing was a blot on the comfortable victories.
Yes, he wasn’t up to the mark. The all-rounder’s fielding was pathetic. He dropped Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez in the first match, and then, in the second against the West Indies, spilled the dangerous Chris Gayle when he was on 19.
The less said the better about his batting. He was bowled for 1 by Bilawal Bhatti in the first match, while against the West Indies played a scratchy knock, scoring 10 from 19 deliveries.
However, despite his failings, he continues to receive captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s backing.
‘Yuvraj is one of the best players of T20, but, yes, you can say that he is not in great touch at the moment. It becomes tough when you are dropped from ODIs and then you make a comeback in the T20 squad. So there's bit of pressure on him," Dhoni said in defence of the left-hander.
Should Yuvraj Singh play against Bangladesh on Friday? Shouldn’t Ajinkya Rahane be given a chance?
