Sachin Tendulkar left millions of his fans depressed after falling six short of his 100th century in international cricket, during day four of the third and final Test in Mumbai, on Friday.
A packed Wankhede stadium and millions of fans in India and worldwide were expecting the master batsman to achieve the landmark at his home ground, but Ravi Rampaul had him caught at second slip for 94 to dash all their hopes.
Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, an avid cricket fan, was among the first to react to Tendulkar's dismissal on Twitter.
"Oh dear ! Believe Sachin out on 95 ! Heartbroken ! Ah well another day maybe .. We'll wait !" he wrote on Twitter.
"Correction : out on 94 !! Still heartbroken, but full of hope and conviction that he shall get there someday !!"
Former India player Sanjay Manjrekar:
Once the new ball was taken, tendulkar looked eager to get there quickly..tough game, one error and its all over.
Ind wants Tendulkar relaxed & at his best in Oz. It is for this reason they shud pick him in the odis to get the monkey off his back.
Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah:
94; ninety bloody four. Come ON.
Television presenter and actress Mandira Bedi:
It was a beautiful, fluent, sachin-esque 94. Let's be thank ful for those 94 runs!!
Ravi Rampaul is NOT going to experience any more Indian hospitality..
Director Shekhar Kapur:
Oh well, next innings. God is just teasing us.
Television commentator and cricket expert Harsha Bhogle:
think sachin should play odis; not just to have a shot at the 100th 100, that too, but to keep playing cricket. else, break will be a month
