The opening ceremony of the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League was a breathtaking magnum opus.
From the energetic Shah Rukh Khan dancing to popular tracks from his films, to Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone shaking a leg, to international rap star Pitbull belting out his famous numbers (without those firang half-naked women dancing around), the performances left the audience wanting more.
Rediff.com gives you a quick recap of how the opening ceremony panned out.
There were doubts if Pitbull was just lip-syncing to his popular chartbusters at the opening show, but, nonetheless, 'Mr Worldwide' kept the Kolkata crowd on its feet.
Crooning his recent success Don't stop the party, and then closing his act with his most popular Give me everything tonight, the American rap artist had the crowd in a trance.
What is an IPL opening ceremony without a Shah Rukh Khan performance? Here he was again doing what he does best -- entertaining his fans.
Kolkata Knight Riders' co-owner commenced the proceedings with a poetic rendition of the popular Rabindra Sangeet Aguner Paroshmani. He then pumped up the crowd and raised the tempo by performing to hits like Ladki badi anjaani hai and Chamak Challo.
Deepika Padukone, a known face in the stands at the previous editions of the IPL because of her previous link-up with a high-flying liquor baron's son, also showed off a few sexy moves on stage.
In a short performance, dressed in a sexy corset and figure hugging leather trousers, she danced to Honey Singh's Angrezi beat and Tumhi ho bandhu.
The dance wasn't her USP on the night, but her looks sure killed!Another regular PYT (that's Pretty Young Thing, for the uninformed) seen at IPL matches is Katrina Kaif. She may not really enjoy T20 cricket, but it looked like she had her share of fun on Tuesday night performing in front of thousands of Kolkatans.
She moved her supple body to the beats of Mashallah and Chikni Chameli and raised the heartbeat of men, young and old. She danced like a pro for sure, which begs the question: was she tutored by Farah Khan, like we have been seeing in the new IPL endorsements?
Just asking!SRK can't be kept away from the spotlight; now, is that possible?
Here the Indian superstar shared the stage and the mic as Bengal's music maestros Usha Uthup and Bappi Lahiri belted out the very popular Hari Om Hari!Parachutes are for wusses, eh?
This daredevily by the performer aptly represents the classic song Flying without wings.
