The fans thronged to the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, Pune to catch the live action between the hosts Pune Warriors and Delhi Daredevils.
The spectators had a fair knowledge of the points table and hoped not to see their home team finish at the bottom of the table.
And their prayers were answered as Pune won their last match by 38 runs. A year after leading the group phase, Delhi finished with the wooden spoon.
Earlier, Pune Warriors won the toss and elected to bat first.

Aaron Finch continued his good run with the bat.
The Pune Warriors skipper hit a half-century while Luke Wright played a cameo to power the hosts to 172 for five against Delhi Daredevils.

Manish Pandey (10) failed yet again as he was cleaned up by Shahbaz Nadeem.
Earlier Pandey survived a run out. The Delhi caption Mahela Jayawardene fielded brilliantly but Pandey made his ground in time.
Murtaza's strikes put Pune in command

Ali Murtaza struck in the fifth over and bagged the wicket of Delhi skipper (14).
Murtaza's second over turned the game completely in favour of Pune. The spinner first had Sehwag (11) caught by Raiphi Gomez at deep cover and trapped Bharat Chipli (16) out leg before off the next ball.
