IPL PHOTOS: Kolkata vs Bangalore

Jacques Kallis (41 off 45 balls) and Sunil Narine came good to help Kolkata Knight Riders record a five-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore during their Indian Premier League matched played in Ranchi on Sunday.

Earlier, off-Spinner Sunil Narine spun a web around the batsmen and helped Kolkata Knight Riders restrict Royal Challengers Bangalore to a mere 115 for 9.

Narine returned with figures of 4-22 as the wicket played slow and made batting difficult.

No big-hitting from Gayle

Even the big-hitting Chris Gayle found the going tough as he managed to crawl to 33 off 36 delieries.

He only managed a four and a six each during his stay at the crease.

After a struggling to get off the mark, opener Cheteshwar Pujara fell for 5 off 15 balls to start Bangalore's downfall.

Kohli made a quick-fire 17

Then, coming in at No 3, Virat Kohli joined Gayle and tried to build an innings. The Bangalore captain smashed two fours but his innings was brought to an abrupt end by Jacques Kallis.

Kohli scored 17 off 14 deliveries.


De Villiers playes sensibly

Gayle was then joined by AB de Villiers. De Villiers and Gayle tried to up the ante and did well to score by stealing twos and threes.

Gayle was then dismissed, stumped by Narine.

Later, De Villiers, hit a six off Laxmipathy Balaji in the 16th over, before getting dismissed, caught behind.

Balaji also took the wicket of Murali Kartik, after Narine accounted for the wickets Saurabh Tiwary (1), Ravi Rampaul (0) and Abhimanyu Mithun (2).

Apart from Vinay Kumar (14 off 13) none of the other Bangalore batsmen could step on the gas and help them to a stronger total.

Chasing a low target, KKR got off to a bad start. In the very first over, opener Manvinder Bisla was caught at point by Henriques off the bowling of Ravi Rampaul.

Kallis came in at No 3 and along with captain and opener Gautam Gambhir attacked the opposition bowlers. Gambhir smashed a hat-trick of fours in the 4th over and Kallis also began solidly.

Then in the 6th over, Kallis drove Vinay Kumar for three runs but in the same over Gambhir became his victim. Gambhir tried to pull a ball but was caught at first slip for 14 from 15 balls.

Following Gambhir's dismissal, KKR stuttered in their chase, losing wickets at regular intervals.

However, Kallis played smartly to see his team through. Kallis slammed four boundaries as he saw KKR cross the finish line.
