The most paisa vasool Indian players in IPL-5 in the list of the 50 most valuable players are: Mandeep Singh (PVI of 51; received $51 for every run scored), Ajinkya Rahane (75), Mayank Agarwal (80), Parvinder Awana (144), Ambati Rayadu (198) and Rajat Bhatia (216).
- Gayle almost certain to be IPL's most valuable player
Note that all of them are the 'untouchables' who could not figure in the auction because they didn't have an India cap.
The most paisa vasool foreign players in the top 50 are Faf du Plessis (302), Dwayne Bravo (341), Azhar Mehmood (391), Steve Smith (441), Owais Shah (534) and Chris Gayle (657).
Generally speaking, an auctioned player offers 'outstanding' value if his paisa vasool index (PVI) is below 500 (); 'excellent' value if the PVI lies between 500-1000 (), 'very good' value for a PVI between 1000-1500 () and 'good' value for a PVI between 1500-2000 ().
We also ask ourselves an interesting question: Is it more paisa vasool to buy from Sri Lanka or West Indies?
The chart in the next slide provides all the answers.
The 6 Sri Lanka players who contributed a MVPI of 1740 on the average cost the franchise owner $2757 per run.
In comparison, an Australian player cost $2170 per run, an Indian player $2093 per run (this distribution is very lop-sided: expensive established players probably cost $4000 per run, but inexpensive uncapped players bring down the average), players from South Africa, New Zealand and England cost between $1700-1900 per run ... but West Indian players provide the best return on investment costing just $720 per run!
