Sunrisers Hyderabad snatch Railways’ all-rounder Karn Sharma for Rs 3.75 crore
Himachal Pradesh right-arm fast bowler Rishi Dhawan bags Rs 3 crore deal with Kings XI Punjab
Little-known Railways all-rounder Karn Sharma emerged the costliest buy among uncapped players, fetching a Rs 3.75 crore deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad, after Kings XI Punjab bought Rishi Dhawan for Rs 3 crore and Kedar Jadhav clinched a Rs 2 crore contract with Delhi Daredevils, as uncapped cricketers went under the hammer on the second and final day of the players’ auction for the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League in Bangalore on Friday.
The 26-year-old Karn surprisingly got a better deal that better-known names like Karnataka opening batsman K L Rahul (Rs 1 crore, Sunrisers Hyderabad) and India under-19 captain Unmukt Chand (Rs 65 lakh, Rajasthan Royals).
The leg-spinning all-rounder from Uttar Pradesh also played for the Hyderabad franchise last season and claimed 11 wickets in 13 matches at a decent economy rate of 6.60.
All-rounder Rishi Dhawan (base price Rs 20 lakh), the Ranji Trophy's leading wicket-taker this season, was signed up for a whopping Rs 3 crore by Kings XI Punjab via the 'Right to Match' provision after being initially acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Dhawan is primarily a fast-bowling all-rounder who bats in the middle-order.
The 23-year-old played for Kings XI Punjab in the 2008 editon of the IPL and was signed by the Mumbai Indians last season.
There was joy for this season’s Ranji Trophy top-scorer too, as Kedar Jadhav (base price Rs 30 lakh) was snatched by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 2 crore after intense bidding.
Delhi also used the 'Right to Match' card after the Maharashtra middle-order batsman was initially snapped up by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The 26-year-old Jadhav was with Royal Challengers Bangalore’s development squad with before being signed by Delhi Daredevils in 2010.
He scored a 29-ball 50 for Delhi Daredevils against the Royal Challengers in his debut IPL match and was named man of the match.
The following season, he was signed by the now-defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala, and played in six matches.
The other big winners after the initial rounds of bidding on Day 2 were Rajat Bhatia (Rs 1.70 crore, Rajasthan Royals), Manish Pandey (Rs 1.70 crore Kolkata Knight Riders), Aditya Tare (Rs 1.60 crore, Mumbai Indians), K L Rahul (Rs 1 crore, Sunrisers Hyderabad), Gurkeerat Singh (Rs 1.30 crore, Kings XI Punjab), Parveez Rasool (Rs 95 lakh, Sunrisers Hyderabad) and Unmukt Chand (Rs 65 lakh, Rajasthan Royals).
Tare, with 41 dismissals in the last Ranji Trophy season set a record for most dismissals by a wicketkeeper. He was the second highest run-getter for Mumbai, with 842 runs, including a double century and three fifties.
He was named the ‘Best Mumbai Ranji Cricketer for 2012-13’.
All-rounder Parvees Rasool scored 594 runs from seven matches, at an average of 54, including two centuries in the last Ranji season.
He also took 33 wickets, at an average of 18 with three five-wicket hauls.
The 25-year-old was the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to play in the IPL after being signed up by the now-defunct Pune Warriors last season.
Promising pacer Jasprit Bumrah was bought by Mumbai Indians, his previous franchise, for Rs 1.20 crore.
The 20-year-old has played 11 Twenty20 matches and taken 13 wickets.
All-rounder Mandeep Singh, a former vice-captain of India’s Under-19 team, was grabbed for Rs 80 lakh by Kings XI Punjab through the 'Right to Match' card.
The young Mandeep, with a base price of Rs 30 lakh, got the opening bid from Royal Challengers Bangalore before Chennai Super Kings come into the picture.
Sunrisers Hyderabad jump into the fray and the bid touched Rs 80 lakh. With not much money in the kitty to spend, Chennai backed out and the 22-year-old stayed with Kings XI Punjab.
Unmukt Chand played for Delhi Daredevils since making his debut in 2011. He wasn’t too impressive though, having scored scoring just 196 runs, including three ducks, in 13 matches.
In nine outings last season he aggregated 158, with a highest scored of 41.
When the bidding for him started with a base price of 30 lakh, the tussle was between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians. However, the latter backed out after Rajasthan pitched for Rs 65 lakh.
