Dhoni remains defiant about turning track demand

MS Dhoni remains undeterred.

The comprehensive defeat to England at the Wankhede, in conditions that were India-friendly, has led to criticism from various quarters.

India's captain has received a lot of flak for his demand for wickets that 'turn' from the first day. However, Dhoni stands by his decision.

"It is not about who wins the Test, but about providing conditions where both the teams can do well," he asserts, almost echoing the statement he made in the opener in Motera.

'You have to stick to your strengths, our strength is spin'

"You have to stick to your strengths. And our strength is spin. You don't want a track that remains flat for five days and offers nothing for the bowlers," he reasons.

As if to substantiate his point, Dhoni provides a few examples.

"Australia and England always prepare tracks they are know for," he explains , "And they don't win every match they play."

The reference is obviously to South Africa's victories in England and Australia this year.

Having had a look at the Eden wicket, Dhoni did not seem too optimistic.

"I don't think there will be much help for the spinners initially," he said, before quickly adding, "but the fast bowlers have a crucial role to play in the first two days."
