Australian No.11 debutant Ashton Agar, who hit a brilliant 98 to rescue his team on Thursday, received sympathy from Twitter users in the UK for failing to complete his maiden Test century.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, England fans began peppering their Tweets with ''gutted for Agar'', which was in total contrast to the Ashes rivalry, soon after the young Australian was removed for 98.

The previous highest individual Test score by a number 11 was Tino Best's 95 against England last year and the West Indies fast bowler was quick to praise Agar's performance.

"Must say we as number 11 batters in Agar and myself love this English bowling attack #SweetLikeSugarCane #agar #Ashes #tinobest," Best tweeted.

After Agar's name had been broadcast repeatedly all over the world, the young star described the scenario as a potentially life-changing experience, the report said.
