Ireland suffered a big jolt in their concluding match of the cricket World Cup when their leading spinner George Dockrell dislocated his shoulder while fielding against the Netherlands in Kolkata on Friday.

The Netherlands also had an injury scare to Wesley Barresi when the opening batsman was hit on the back of his neck from a throw and he was retired hurt for a brief period.

The left-arm orthodox spinner Dockrell, after he dived to his right to stop a single, was immediately taken out of the field and was rushed to the hospital for scanning.

"He has dislocated his right shoulder. We have to wait and see the medical examination report and it is unknown whether he can field today," an ICC announcement said.

It appeared to be the end of the World Cup for Dockrell who was seen in terrible pain while he was taken out of the field.

Seen as the most exciting young spinner, Dockrell has seven wickets in his kitty including the prized scalp of Sachin Tendulkar.

In another incident that happened in the first over of the Netherlands innings, Barresi, after being dropped on zero off the second ball, was struck by a return throw as he got some attention from the physio.

While taking the second run, Barresi, with his eyes not on the ball, came in between the throw and the wicketkeeper and he was struck under his helmet.

Barresi played on but retired hurt on two after the third ball of the second over to get more attention in the dressing room.

Baressi returned with a bang after the dismissal of Alexei Kervezee hitting Irish strike bowler Boyd Rankin for a six while engaging himself with an entertaining 60-run partnership with ten Doeschate.

The opener went on to score 44 from 49 balls with two sixes and four boundaries.
