Marathe stars in India's easy victory

Left-arm spinner Deepa Marathe took four wickets and gave away only one run as India beat South Africa by four wickets in the women's cricket World Cup at the Technikon grounds in Pretoria on Saturday.

Marathe was will-supported by Amita Sharma, who claimed three for 23 in 7.3 overs, as the visitors skittled out the hosts for 80 runs in 34.3 overs.

Neeta David took two for eight runs in six overs.

Johmari Logtenberg was the only batswoman to show any resistance, scoring 26 runs for South Africa.

In reply, India achieved the target for loss of six wickets in 25 overs to remain unbeaten in the tournament.

Marathe was declared player of the match.

In another match, Sri Lanka lost to New Zealand by seven wickets after New Zealand won the toss and elected to field.

Sri Lanka scored 58 in 34.3 overs. New Zealand responded with 59 for three in 18.4 overs.

England continued on their winning ways too when they trounced Ireland by 128 runs.

England scored 221 for six in their 50 overs, and then restricted Ireland to 93 for eight.

In another match at Rustenberg near Pretoria, Australia beat West Indies by 79 runs.

Batting first, Australia scored 230 all out in 49.2 overs, before bowling out West Indies for 151 in 48.3 overs.

Australian captain Karen Rolton who top scored with 69 was named the player of the match.
