After Shashank Manohar stepped down as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday, speculation is growing over who will take over the top post.
BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur is the hot favourite to take over from Manohar, who quit after spending less than six months in charge.
Indian Premier League chairman Rajeev Shukla is also in the running along with Maharashtra Cricket Association president Ajay Shirke.
As per BCCI rules, a Special General Meeting has to be convened within 15 days, apprising the members of the current situation. It is the prerogative of secretary Thakur to call such a meeting.
Thakur was elected as the secretary of the BCCI in January last year and is one of the most prominent office-bearers in the Board.
Son of Prem Kumar Dhumal, a former chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, Thakur is the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party's youth wing and a three-time MP from the Hamirpur constituency in HP.
