Yusuf Pathan played his second consecutive match-winning knock to lead Baroda to a convincing four-wicket victory over Maharashtra in the West Zone leg of the Vizay Hazare One-Day Championships in Pune on Wednesday.
Yusuf smashed 86 not out from just 55-balls, hitting six fours and an equal number of sixes as Baroda chased down the target of 178 with 124 balls to spare at the Poona Club Ground.
Yusuf had hit a century (116) in the previous match to help Baroda register a thrilling one-wicket victory.
Baroda’s run chase didn’t start off well as they slumped to 34 for three in the 11th over before Yusuf and Ambati Ryudu (40 of 57 balls) rescued their side.
Earlier, sent into bat, Maharashtra were all out for 177 in 49 overs with four batsmen scoring in 30s. Prayag Bhati top-scored with a 32.
For Baroda, Lukman Meriwala grabbed three wickets for 29 runs while Munaf Patel and Jyot Chhaya got two wickets apiece.
Saxena's all-round show takes MP to quarters
Leg-spinner Jatin Saxena grabbed five wickets for 40 runs while contributing 61 with the bat as Madhya Pradesh thumped Vidarbha by 68 runs to advance to the quarter-finals stage of the Vijay Hazare One-Day Championships
Chasing a big target of 264, Vidarbha were all out for 195 in 47.1 overs with Jatin Saxena doing the main damage. Jalaj Saxena, who had impressed for India A in the practice game against the visiting Australians, took two wickets in the Central Zone leg match.
Vidarbha made a wobbly start and made a bit of a recovery in the middle overs only to lose way at slog overs. From 174 for five, they lost five wickets while adding just 21 runs to lose the match.
Earlier, electing to bat, Madhya Pradesh notched up 263 for eight with wicketkeeper Naman Ojha top-scoring with a 99-ball 83. Jatin Saxena was the other main contributor with a 83-ball 61 which he hit with the help of seven fours.
Prem lifts Kerala to victory over Goa
Kerala rode on Rohan Prem's unbeaten 82 to beat Goa by six wickets in their Vijay Hazare Trophy (South Zone) match in Porvorim.
Prem struck four fours and two sixes in his 101-ball knock and found an able ally in wicketkeeper Sanju Samson (58) as Kerala chased down the 220-run target with 27 balls to spare.
Electing to bat, Goa were all out for 219 in 49.5 overs with captain Sagun Kamat top-scoring with 71 which he hit from 118 balls with the help of four fours.
Robin D'Souza contributed 50, laced with six fours and one six.
For Kerala, Parameswaran took three wickets for 34 runs while Padmanabhan Prasanth accounted for two wickets.
Yadav century gives Rajasthan victory over Railways
Opener Puneet Yadav smashed a sparkling century as Rajasthan scored an easy seven- wicket victory over Railways in the Central Zone leg of the Vijay Hazare One-Day Championships.
Yadav hit 18 fours in his 117-knock of 123 as Rajasthan chased down the target of 232 with 37 balls to spare at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.
Captain Robin Bist contributed 49 as Rajasthan reached 232 for three in 43.5 overs.
For Railways, Karan Sharma grabbed two wickets for 37 runs while Krishnakant Upadhyay took one wicket.
Earlier, sent into bat, Railways were all out for 231 in 48.5 overs with captain Mahesh Rawat top-scoring with 81 which he hit from 64 balls with the help of eight fours and two sixes. Opener Shivakant Shukla contributed 47.
For Rajasthan, Madhur Khatri and Raman Chahar took three wickets apiece.
Rajasthan got four points from the win while Railways got none.
