A fine spell by medium pacer Vivek Razdan (3 for 23) led India Veterans to a 12-run victory over Pakistan Veterans in the first limited-overs match of the NTPC Indo-Pak Goodwill series in Jalandhar on Friday.
Chasing a target of 175 runs in 30 overs, the Pakistani veterans could score 162 for seven.
Earlier, electing to bat, Indian Veterans started on a promising note with the two openers - Surinder Khanna (23) and Atul Wasan (28) - putting up 42 runs in just 29 balls.
But the Indians then lost a couple of wickets in quick succession and were tottering on 68 for three at one stage.
However, all-rounder Gursharan Singh (55), who was also adjudged man-of-match, first built a 47-run partnership with Bhaskar Pillay and then gathered 35 runs for the sixth wicket with Vijay Yadav to take his team past the 150 mark.
In reply, Pakistan veterans had a disastrous start to their innings as they lost three wickets with just 31 runs on the board.
The fourth wicket-pair of Amir Malik (30) and Ijaz Ahmed (48) steadied the sinking ship with a 73-run partnership.
But with Khanna (2/33) sending both the batsman back to pavilion in a span of three overs the visitors were again forced on the back foot.
Razdan, who came back for his second spell, then ensured that there was no hope of a fightback by claiming the wickets of Mansoor Elahi and Mohammed Rashid.
