Tendulkar, Ganguly and Laxman to select India's coach

The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday announced that former cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly have been entrusted the task of selecting the team's next head coach.

"The cricket advisory committee which consists of three eminent  cricketers, namely Mr. Sachin Tendulkar, Mr.Sourav Ganguly and Mr. VVS Laxman in association with Mr Sanjay Jagdale, who will act as Chief Co ordinator of this committee for the purpose of the selection of the Head Coach will be handed over the 21 eligible applications," read a statement from BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke.

Post the initial scrutiny of 57 applications for head coach of the Indian team, 21 applicants were found to meet the primary criteria specified by the BCCI, the statement added.

The committee is expected to give its report by June 22.

The committee, comprising three of India's greatest cricketers, will process and scrutinise all the applications, conduct interviews and seek presentations from candidates as the committee deems fit, the BCCI stated.

"The committee will be required to go through the process and on completion, recommend its choice of selection to the president of the BCCI, Mr Anurag Thakur, through the Hony Secretary (Shirke)."

"Should the committee desire to look at all the 57 applications as well, the said will be made available to them."

The primary operations and activities of the committee will be carried out in the Mumbai office of the BCCI.

Tendulkar, a key member of this committee, is out of the country, has confirmed his availability as and when required through video conference facilities.
