Statistical highlights at the end of third day's play in the third and final cricket Test between India and Sri Lanka in Colombia on Sunday.

# With two centuries in a row at at P.Saravanamuttu Stadium, Colombo, Kumar Sangakkara has averaged 90.66 at this venue - 544 runs in seven innings, including two hundreds and two fifties.

# Sangakkara and Prasanna Jayawardene put on 80 runs - Sri Lanka's best partnership for the seventh wicket in Test Cricket at P Saravanamuttu Stadium, Colombo, bettering the 70 between Hashan Tillakaratne and Kumar Dharmasena against New Zealand in 2002-03.

# Prasanna Jayawardene (49) posted his highest score against India, eclipsing his 30 in the first Test of the present series at Colombo, SSC.

# Virender Sehwag's aggregate of 344 at an average of 68.80 is a record by an Indian batsman in a Test series against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. 

# Sehwag's aggregate is now the third best by an Indian batsman in a Test series against Sri Lanka.  Sourav Ganguly had amassed 392 (ave.98.00) in the three-Test series in India in 1997-98 and Dilip Vengsarkar had made 376 at an averagte of 125.33 in the three-Test series in India in 1986-87.

# Sehwag, during the course of his 34, completed his 1,000 runs in the calendar year 2008 - 1002 at an average of 77.07, including three centuries and two fifties in only eight Tests. He is the second batsman to accomplish the feat this year. Graeme Smith (South Africa) has made 1179 runs at an average of 69.35 in 11 Tests. 

# Gautam Gambhir has completed 1,000 runs in Test Cricket - 1002 runs at an average of 37.11 in 17 Tests, including one century and six fifties.

# Gambhir became the second Indian batsman after Virender Sehwag to complete 300 runs in a Test series against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka -  310 at an average of 51.66, including three fifties.

# For the first time in his Test career, Gambhir has amassed 300 runs or more in a Test series, outstripping his previous best against Pakistan in 2004-05 when he had aggregated 179 at an average of 35.80 in the three-Test series.

# Gambhir and Sehwag became the first Indian pair to be associated in fifty-plus stands of 50-plus in Test cricket twice - 167 & 90 against Sri Lanka at Galle in 2008 and 51 & 62 at Colombo, PSS.

# Sourav Ganguly has averaged 16.00 in the series - 96 runs in six innings.

# Ganguly, in 9 Tests this year, has made only 459 runs at an average of 28.68, including four fifties.

# With 25 wickets (ave.17.44) in the series, Mendis has set a world record for most wickets by a bowler on his debut in a three-Test series.

# Mendis' tally is also the best by a Sri Lankan bowler in a Test series against India, outstripping Muralitharan's tally of 23 wickets (ave.19.30 runs)in 3 Tests in 2001.

# Harbhajan Singh, with 15 wickets in the series at an average of 27.06, has set a series record for India against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, surpassing Chetan Sharma's tally of 14 wickets in three Tests (ave.27.36 runs) in 1985-86.
