  • Daryl Tuffey's bowling figures of 10-2-11-2 (R/o: 1.1) were the fourth best economical bowling performance by a Kiwi bowler in LOIs. The following bowlers, who have delivered at least 60 balls (or 10 overs) in a match, have better economical figures than Tuffey - Ewen Chatfield (10-4-8-1; R/o: 0.80 v Sri Lanka at Dunedin on 2-3-1983), Richard Hadlee (12-6-10-0; R/o: 0.83 v East Africa at Birmingham, 7-6-1975); and Lance Cairns (10-6-10-0; R/o: 1.00 v Sri Lanka at Dunedin, 2-3-1983).

  • Tuffey's figures were the second best economical bowling figures by any bowler against India after Australian Glenn McGrath's 10-4-8-4 (R/o: 0.80) at Sydney on 14-1-2000.

  • Brendon McCullum who had taken five dismissals (4 ct+1st) at Napier (on 29-12-2002),
once again equalled the New Zealand record for a keeper, for the most dismissals in a LOI match. He equalled the record of Adam Parore (three catches and 2 stumpings v West Indies at Goa on 26-10-1994) and his own performance at Napier earlier this week. Incidentally, McCullum became the first keeper in LOI history to take five dismissals in a match in successive games and also the first to take 10 dismissals in two successive matches.

  • Paul Hitchcock's 3-30 was his personal best figures in his 8th match bettering the previous best of 3-43 against the West Indies at Gros Islet in June last year.

  • India's total of 108 equals its lowest against New Zealand. India had made an identical score in the first match of his series at Auckland on 26-12-2002.

  • This was the fourth occasion India's innings was top-scored by Mr Extras. It has also occurred against Pakistan at Totonto on 23-9-1996; against West Indies at Toronto on 12-9-1999, against Australia at Sydney on 14-1-2000 and now at Christchurch. This was also the first such instance in New Zealand.

  • New Zealand's victory with 139 balls to spare was its largest in LOIs against a Test nation. Its previous largest was the win with 130 balls to spare against Zimbabwe at Wellington on 6-2-1998. However New Zealand's all-time biggest was the victory by 193 balls to spare against Scotland at Edinburgh on 31-5-1999 during the 1999 World Cup.

  • This was the only second time in his career as captain spanning 85 matches, Sourav Ganguly had lost four matches in a row. He lost the Baroda match against the West Indies on 18-11-2002, only to lose the next three against New Zealand on this tour. Ganguly had also lost four matches in row from 7-7-2001 to 26-7-2001 - against West Indies (1), New Zealand (2) and Sri Lanka (1).

  • India has now lost all its five matches at the Jade Stadium (formerly Lancaster Park) in Christchurch.

  • The man of the match award was Tuffey's only second such award in 40 matches. He had earlier won an award against Pakistan at Napier on 20-2-2001 for his bowling performance of 4-24.
