Stats: Windies hand India fourth heaviest ODI defeat at home

The West Indies got their One-day International series against India off to a rousing start, scoring a thumping 124-run victory over the World champions, in Kochi, on Wednesday.

The tourists put aside a pay dispute row with their cricket board that cast a cloud over the match getting underway and rode on a career-best equalling 126 not out by Marlon Samuels to post 321 for 6 before shooting out the world’s No 1-ranked side for a meagre 197 in 41 overs.

Here are some statistical highlights from the match.

# Marlon Samuels became the 10th West Indian batsman to amass 4,000 runs in ODIs - 4077 - at an average 32.35 in 160 matches.

# He completed 1,000 runs in ODIs – his aggregate being 1012 (ave 32.64) in 36 matches. He is the eighth West Indian to accomplish the feat against India in ODIs.

# Samuels (126 not out off 116 balls) equalled his career-best innings in ODIs. He had registered 126 against Bangladesh at Dhaka on December 5, 2012.

# His second hundred against India is his sixth in ODIs. He scored 108 not out at Vijayawada on November 24, 2002.

# His match-winning innings is the fourth highest for the West Indies against India in India in ODIs - the three highest innings being 149 not out by Shivnarine Chanderpaul at Nagpur on January 21, 2007; 149 by Vivian Richards at Jamshedpur on December 7, 1983, and 140 by Chris Gayle at Ahmedabad on November 15, 2002.

Shikhar Dhawan scored his ninth fifty (68 off 92 balls) in ODIs - his second against the West Indies.

# The three leading run-scorers for India in ODIs this year are - Virat Kohli (536), Ajinkya Rahane (508) and Shikhar Dhawan (496).

# During the last year, Denesh Ramdin has averaged 63.25 in 12 games. He scored two hundreds and two fifties. Only Mahendra Singh Dhoni has a better average in ODIs than Ramdin - 777 in 17 innings, at an average of 70.63, including a century and seven fifties (minimum ten matches).

# Mohammed Shami (4-66) recorded his best bowling figures versus the West Indies in ODIs.

# Shami's first instance of a four-wicket haul at home is his third in ODIs. He took his tally to 32 at 23.87 runs apiece in 14 matches - the most in ODIs this year, bettering Lasith Malinga's tally of 29 (ave.26.48) in 17 matches.

# India's huge defeat by 124 runs is their fourth largest in terms of runs in ODIs at home - their second biggest to the West Indies behind the 135-run defeat at Vijayawada on November 24 2002.

# The West Indies (321-6) registered their fourth highest total against India at home in ODIs - the highest being 333-8 at Jamshedpur on December 7, 1983.

The West Indies' above score is the highest by any team in ODIs at the Nehru stadium, Kochi, eclipsing India's 309 for five versus Australia on April 1, 1998.

# India has been bowled out 27 times each for under 200 versus West Indies and Pakistan in ODIs.

# Samuels's unbeaten knock of 126 is the highest by a batsman in ODIs at the Nehru Stadium, Kochi. His nine innings of fifty-plus against India is the most by him against a side.

# He has got his 10th Man of the Match award in ODIs - his third versus India.

# Denesh Ramdin (61 off 59 balls) posted his fifth fifty in ODIs - his third against India.

# Samuels and Ramdin were involved in a stand of 165 for the fourth wicket - West Indies' highest versus India in ODIs, eclipsing the 149 between Chanderpaul and Sarwan at Rajkot on November 12, 2002.

# The above stand is a fourth-wicket partnership record at Nehru Stadium, Kochi in ODIs.

# Kohli has recorded his ninth single-digit score in his last 16 innings in international cricket.
