Several records were set on Sunday during India's innings, says Rajneesh Gupta.

Skipper Virat Kohli slammed his third double century of the year as his magnificent 235 powered India to a mammoth 631, a lead of 231 runs, in its first innings on the fourth day of the fourth Test against England on Sunday.

Allrounder and number 9 batsman Jayant Yadav (104) hit his maiden Test century.

3 Number of double hundreds scored by Virat Kohli in Test cricket in 2016 -- the most by an Indian in a calendar year.

Before him Vinod Kambli (in 1993), Rahul Dravid (2003), Sachin Tendulkar (2004), Virender Sehwag (2008) and Sachin Tendulkar (2010) had scored two double hundreds each.

5 Number of batsmen to have hit three double tons in a calendar year. Virat joined Michael Clarke (4 in 2012), Don Bradman (3 in 1930), Ricky Ponting (3 in 2003) and Brendon McCullum (3 in 2014).

235 Virat's score is the highest by an Indian captain in Test cricket, beating M S Dhoni's 224 against Australia at Chennai in 2013.

His innings is also the highest for India against England, beating Vinod Kambli's 224 also at Wankhede in 1993.

7 Number of double hundreds scored by Indian captains in Test cricket.

Three of them have come off Virat Kohli's bat!

No one else has scored more than one double hundred as India's captain.

Mansur Ali Khan 'Tiger' Pataudi, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and M S Dhoni are the other Indian captains with a double hundred in Tests.

Farokh Engineer's 90 against New Zealand at Madras in 1965 was the previous highest score.

'Bolu' Yadav's 211 for Haryana against Karnataka in a Ranji Trophy game in 2012 is the highest score by a number 9 batsman in Indian first class cricket.

241 Runs added by Virat Kohli and Jayant Yadav -- the highest 8th wicket stand for India against any country.

The previous highest was 161 between Mohammad Azharuddin and Anil Kumble against South Africa at Kolkata in 1996.

'Bolu' Yadav also features in the highest 8th wicket partnership in Indian first class cricket.

He added 392 runs with Virender Sehwag for Haryana against Karnataka at Hubli in 2012 in that Ranji Trophy game.

118.3 Number of overs bowled by England spinners in the Indian first innings.

The last time England used spinners to bowl so many overs was in 1993 against India, also at the Wankhede when Eddie Hemmings, Phil Tufnell and Graeme Hick bowled 127.3 overs.

640 Runs scored by Virat Kohli in the series so far -- the most by an Indian in a series against England.

Virat went ahead of Rahul Dravid who aggregated 602 runs in 2002.

Virat's series tally is also the highest by any subcontinent player against England, beating Pakistan's Mohammad Yousuf's 631 in 2006.

631 India's first innings total is its highest against England at home, beating 591, also made at the Wankhede in 1993.

2 Number of times Virat Kohli has scored 600 runs in a Test series.

The other such instance was against Australia in 2014-2015.

Virat joins Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid in scoring 600 runs in a series on two occasions for India.

221 Runs scored by Jayant Yadav in the series -- the most by any player in his debut series while batting at number 9 or lower.
