Statistical highlights: India vs Sri Lanka, 2nd Test, Day 2

Following are the statistical highlights of Day 2 in the second Test between India and Sri Lanka, at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, on Wednesday.

# Rahul Dravid posted an excellent 144 off 226 balls. In the process, he completed his 28th Test century, his third against Sri Lanka.

# In the course of his century, Dravid (11,182) obliterated Australian Allan Border's run-aggregate of 11,174, moving into the fourth position in the list of top run-getters in Tests. Dravid's runs' tally is exceeded only by Sachin Tendulkar (12,917), Brian Lara (11,953) and Ricky Ponting (11,345).

# Gautam Gambhir (167), Virender Sehwag (131) and Rahul Dravid (144) -- the top three players for India -- registered centuries, providing the third instance when No 1, 2 and 3 have posted centuries in the same innings for India, equaling Australia's tally of three such instances.

# Against Bangladesh in the 2007 Mirpur Test, the top four Indian batsmen had scored centuries -- Dinesh Karthik (129), Wasim Jaffer (138 not out), Rahul Dravid (129) and Sachin Tendulkar (122 not out). The said instance is the only one in Test annals when the top four batsmen scored centuries in the same Test innings.

# Sreesanth registered his first duck against Sri Lanka -- his fifth overall.

# Five fifty-plus knocks were registered by Indian players for the fourth time against Sri Lanka.

# Dilshan's wicket with the first ball of an innings was a feat accomplished by Zaheer Khan for the third time. He had dismissed Javed Omar off the very first ball in both the innings in the 2007 Mirpur Test.

# VVS Laxman posted his fifth fifty against Sri Lanka -- his 41st in Tests.

# Laxman, for the first time, recorded back-to-back fifties against Sri Lanka -- 51 not out at Ahmedabad, followed by 63 at Kanpur.

# Rangana Herath (5/121) produced his best bowling performance overseas -- his fourth instance of five wickets in an innings is his first against India.

# Herath has shown splendid form this year, becoming the only one in 2009 to bag five wickets in an innings four times.

# Herath is now the first Sri Lankan bowler to bag five wickets in an innings at Green Park, eclipsing Ravi Ratnayeke's figures of four for 132 in 1986-87.

# India's 642 is their seventh best in Test cricket and second highest against Sri Lanka -- their highest against Sri Lanka being the 676 for seven in the 1986-87 Kanpur Test.

# Yuvraj Singh recorded his eighth half-century – his fourth against Sri Lanka. The said innings is his 25th fifty in first-class cricket.

# Yuvraj's brilliant innings of 67 off 105 balls is his first half-century at Green Park.
