India suffered an injury blow when pacer Varun Aaron experienced a muscle strain in his right leg during the five-match ODI series opener against Sri Lanka in Cuttuck.

"Aaron has a right quadriceps muscle strain and we will take a call (on his fitness) after investigation," the team India manager told reporters after the 169-run win over Sri Lanka on Sunday.

Aaron had to leave the field grimacing in pain after bowling the first ball of the 13th over and Virat Kohli had to complete the over.

Aaron, who incidentally clocked 152kph in the first over, chatted with Kohli as the physio was called and taken off after bowling 4.1 overs, conceding 26 runs.

Kohli though refused to comment on Aaron's availability for the next game.

"Aaron struggled after the fourth over and I don't know the extent of his injury. I didn't want to take a chance and asked him to rest.
