Shoaib Akhtar discharged from hospital

Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, who was hospitalised with chest infection, was be discharged on Wednesday evening.

Shoaib, who was running high temperature, was admitted to Apollo Gleneagles hospital in Kolkata, on Tuesday, where he was diagnosed with chest infection.

The Pakistani pacer was assessed by attending doctor Shyamasish Banerjee before being discharged, hospital authorities confirmed.

"He has been advised a night's rest and to continue with the medicines. He can gradually start normal activities from tomorrow," said Banerjee, visibly satisfied with Shoaib's progress.

Misbah-ul Haq and Mohammad Sami are also stable now, confirmed Pakistan media manager Ehsan Malik.

But Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik, who sprained his ankle during a practice session after the first Test in Delhi, hasn't recovered fully and will take part only in a light practice session at the Eden Gardens.

Both Malik and Misbah also had check-ups at the hospital before returning to the team hotel on Tuesday.
