Shikhar Dhawan reported for suspect bowling action

Last updated on: December 09, 2015 14:42 IST

Shikhar Dhawan India opener Shikhar Dhawan has been reported for suspect bowling action during the fourth Test against South Africa, which the hosts won by 337 runs, in New Delhi, on Monday.

"The match officials' report, which was handed over to the India team management, cited concerns about the legality of the 30-year-old's off-spin deliveries," read a statement from the ICC.

"Dhawan's bowling action will now be scrutinised further under the ICC process relating to suspected illegal bowling actions reported in Tests, ODIs and T20Is.

He is required to undergo testing within 14 days, and during this period, Dhawan is permitted to continue bowling in international cricket until the results of the testing are known," the statement added.

Dhawan bowled three overs of off-spin during South Africa's second innings in the recently-concluded Delhi Test.

Since he is not even a part-time spinner in the real sense, the ICC diktat should not be a big problem as India's captains Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni do not need him as a bowler in their larger scheme of things.
