Sri Lanka batsman Kumar Sangakkara has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for showing dissent at an umpire's decision during the sixth One-Day International against England in Pallekele on Saturday.
The star batsman was found to have breached the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "Showing dissent at an Umpire's decision during an International Match."
The incident happened at the beginning of the 34th over in Sri Lanka's innings when Sangakkara got involved in a prolonged discussion with on-field umpire Bruce Oxenford, disputing the umpire's decision to not allow Sri Lanka to take the batting Powerplay at that time, Sri Lanka Cricket said in a release.
Two balls later, following the dismissal of Tillakaratne Dilshan, Sangakkara has turned to Mr. Oxenford and made another inappropriate comment.
After the conclusion of the match, which Sri Lanka won by 90 runs, Sangakkara admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by David Boon of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees.
