India got off to a brilliant start in the second Test as spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja had the South African batsmen in web on Day 1 of the Test in Bengaluru.

South Africa were bowled out for 214 after AB de Villiers struck a fighting half-century in his 100th Test to propel the visitors' total.

Virat Kohli provided only the second instance in 21 Tests of a captain inserting the opposition in to bat after winning the toss at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. The only other time this happened was in 1974 -- in the first ever Test hosted at this ground!
