Australia captain Steve Smith on Wednesday equalled the legendary Sir Donald Bradman and South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis' record of scoring four consecutive hundreds in a Test series with his cracking innings of 117 against India in Sydney.

- Scorecard

The 25-year-old, who is playing his debut series as captain, has been in imperious form in the four-match rubber and has taken his overall tally to eight hundreds from 26 matches.

With his 117 on the second day of the fourth Test against India, Smith joined Bradman and Kallis as only the third batsman to achieve the rare feat.

His other centuries came in Adelaide (162 not out), Brisbane (133) and Melbourne (192).

Bradman fetched his hundreds against South Africa in 1931-32, while Kallis' accomplished the feat against the West Indies in 2003-04.

Smith has piled up 698 runs in the series so far, averaging an awe-inspiring 139.6. The sublime form has made him third -- after Bradman (715) and Ricky Ponting (706) -- in the list of batsmen with most runs in a series against India.

Should Australia bat again in the series, Smith has the chance of going past Bradman's record, which was made in a five-match series.
