Mumbai gain first innings points

Mumbai gained two points by virtue of their first innings lead in their Ranji Trophy Elite "A" group match against Karnataka, which ended in a draw in Bangalore on Sunday.

Sujith Somasunder's patient half century helped Karnataka finished their second innings on the final day at 159 for four after Mumbai had taken a lead of 158 run in the first innings.

Captains of both the teams agreed to call off play with seven overs remaining to be bowled.

Resuming their second innings from the overnight (0/0), Karnataka lost the wicket of opener Rowland Barrington with 14 runs on the board.

Karnataka, who were all out for a paltry 186 in their first innings, seemed to be in trouble again when its lost two quick wickets in Robin Uthappa and Sudheendra Shinde (0) leaving the hosts reeling at 52 for 2.

Uthappa (41), who had settled down, was caught by Vinayak Samanth off Avishkar Salvi after smashing seven fours facing 55 balls.

Sujit Somasundar's (55) held the fort for five hours and saved the day for the hosts as he remeined unbeaten with six boundaries during his patient 233-ball innings.

Somasunar found able partners in Tilak Naidu, who remained unbeaten on 26 and Stuart Binny, who chipped in with 24 runs reaching the fence twice and hiting a six.
