January 03, 2006 19:15 IST

Baroda made a solid start on a curtailed first day in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'B' encounter against Services at the Palam Ground in Delhi on Tuesday.

The visitors scored 82 runs for the loss of former India batsman Connor Williams before stumps were drawn for the day.

Earlier, wet ground conditions due to overnight rain forced a delayed start while bad light played spoilsport with only 26.2 overs being bowled in the day.

Put in to bat, Baroda skipper Pinal Shah led from the front and was unbeaten with 42 off 69 balls, which included five fours. He put on 44 runs for the first wicket with Williams (21, 30 b, 5x4s).

R K Solanki (batting on 17) was at the crease with Shah when play ended for the day.

For Services, speedster Fazil Mohammed picked the only wicket to fall.
