Rain played spoilsport yet again, as Day 3 of the second Test between India and South Africa, in Bangalore, on Monday, was also washed out.

Not a single ball was bowled on two successive days following a full day's play on Saturday, Day 1, which India dominated after South Africa were bowled out for 214 in 59 overs, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja grabbing four wickets each.

AB de Villiers, playing in his 100th Test, top-scored for the visitors with a fluent innings of 85.

In reply, India progressed steadily to reach 80 for no loss at close of play. Shikhar Dhawan stroked his way to an unbeaten 45 while Murali Vijay was also undefeated on 28.

Weather permitting, play is scheduled to begin at 0915 IST on Day 4, Tuesday.
