Phillip Hughes’s tragic death has sent a shock wave across the cricketing world.

The game must go on but...

Time will help cricketers to deal with Hughes tragedy

The 25-year-old Australia international, who was in contention for a Test recall for the coming series against India, died at the St Vincent's Hospital, on Thursday, where he was battling for life after being struck on the head by a short-pitched delivery from New South Wales paceman Sean Abbott in a domestic match.

Cricket Australia confirmed that the first Test match at the Gabba will not start on Thursday 4 December as scheduled.

The Hughes family also confirmed funeral arrangements will take place on December3 in their home town of Macksville in northern New South Wales.

It will be held in the sports hall of Macksville High School where Phillip studied. The service will be broadcast live by the Nine Network with provisions made for all other television networks.

“We are grateful to the Australian community for the overwhelming show of support it has extended to the Hughes family in recent days,” the CA Chief Executive James Sutherland said.

“The offers of assistance for Wednesday’s service have been remarkable.  While we know that people from all around the nation want to pay their respects to Phillip, there will only be limited capacity in Macksville, so the work of our broadcasters will help ensure people around the country can follow the service on TV, radio and online.”
