Number crunching: Kohli sparkles with ton but India humbled

Glenn Maxwell and James Faulkner stitched up a 80-run partnership (off 63 balls) to help Australia beat India by three wickets and clinched the series 3-0.

Earlier, India's batting mainstay Virat Kohli struck a run-a-ball century to help his team set Australia a 296-run victory target in the third one day international.

161 Number of innings taken by Virat Kohli to aggregate 7000 runs in one-day internationals – least by any batsman. South Africa’s AB de Villiers – the previous record holder did so in 166 innings.

295 India’s total – highest by any side batting first at Melbourne against Australia. England had made 294 in 2011 only to lose by six wickets!

10 Number of matches lost by Mahendra Singh Dhoni against Australia in Australia as captain. Only Arjuna Ranatunga (11) have lost more (Imran Khan also had a tally of 10 losses).

191 Number of sixes hit by Dhoni in one-day internationals – second most by an Indian. Dhoni went ahead of Sourav Ganguly’s tally of 190 sixes.  Now only Sachin Tendulkar-with 195 sixes- is ahead of Dhoni.

18 Number of consecutive ODIs at home for which Australia have been unbeaten (including a no-result game against India). They had last lost an ODI at home to South Africa at Perth in November 2014. With this Australia have equalled West Indies’ record of longest undefeated streak at home (between 1986 and 1990).

14 Number of consecutive matches in which India have allowed Australia to post a total in excess of 250.
